The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under Administrator Scott Pruitt has fired at least five members of one of its scientific review boards. Through a spokesman, Pruitt has vowed to replace the scientists with industrial polluter representatives. Of course, Pruitt is an industrial polluter representative. President Donald “Industry Polluter” Trump has vowed to cut the EPA’s budget by 40 percent. Conservative Republican President Richard Nixon must be turning over in his grave, for it was Nixon who signed the legislation creating the EPA as an entity to protect human health from industrial polluters. Now the polluters are in charge of the EPA. It is effectively ineffective at doing what it is supposed to do,

The corporate and Wall Street billionaires prefer it this way. Those pesky rules and regulations protecting human health also cut into profits, share prices and dividends. Getting rid of the enforcer of those rules by making it a puppet and hostage of the industries it’s supposed to regulate means the EPA will no longer be enforcing anything.

By poisoning the EPA and holding it hostage, Trump and Pruitt will loosen up some significant amounts of cash to spur the stock market bubble to new heights, but it also does something more sinister in the process; it redistributes the health of every American to one degree or another to the rich by morphing our health into greater corporate profits.

How things have changed! Back in the 1960’s, Rachel Carson’s book Silent Spring warned about the human health dangers caused by insecticides. Industrial pollution ensured that US lakes and rivers caught fire. In 1970, conservative Republican US President Richard Nixon signed the legislation creating the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The EPA’s job was to clean up the pollution. The result is that much of that US industrial pollution has been exported to China, India and elsewhere.

US business leaders have long chafed under the chains of the EPA. The more pollution these folks are allowed to create, the more profits their corporations earn, the higher corporate share and bond prices rise. So big business has conspired to takeover the EPA, so as to bend the rules to their favor.

Scott Pruitt, a loyal servant of the profit needs of big oil now heads the EPA. President Franklin Roosevelt once said that businessmen had made certain that government had become an appendage of their profit making before he took office. Pruitt is now in position to ensure the EPA does not do its job in the USA. So expect human health considerations to be shunt aside in favor of the profit desires of big oil and Koch Industries, because as Attorney General of Oklahoma, that is precisely how he defined his job, as you can see from the video above.

Most of the politicians governing the US today are among the most corrupt in world history, and that includes US corporate apparatchiks, such as Mitch McConnell and Ron Wyden.

Think about this. Nixon is considered to have been one of the most corrupt president’s in US history. He was a man who’s crimes were considered so great that he was forced to resign from his office. Yet he ignored the advice and bribes of his corporate sponsors to create the EPA. And the crimes he committed pale in comparison to President Bush lying us into war, or to embroil us in the Iran-Contra scandal.

Something has gone terribly wrong with the USA since Nixon. Crimes are committed by people in high office, and there is no concern for punishment, because the criminals are in charge of the white house, the senate, the US house of representatives, and the US supreme court. There’s no one to answer to for ones crimes in government nowadays. The US government is rotten through the core with corruption.

Yet, there is an economic hurricane just around the corner. When that hits, we’ll be able to clean house, like FDR did in 1933. Get ready.

President Obama is hardly the worst president in history. He’s had some fine accomplishments, but some of us were dismayed at the president for allowing Wall Street executives to get away Scot free from their massive crimes such as mortgage fraud and money laundering for the Mexican drug cartels, but he did rely on these people for campaign cash. This is the first president in any US financial crisis who directed his justice department not to go after a single one of the alleged criminals. That just shows how corrupt the US government is nowadays, and Obama is a product of his times.

The scorched earth politics of the Republican opposition left millions of people in poverty, and they were led by Mitch McConnell and John Boehner, and they did this all for the political gain of the part of the 0.01 percent the Republicans represent. The Republican Party is the greatest example of corruption in modern American history, but the Democratic party is close behind.

Some of us were sorely disappointed than insurance executives were the creators of Obamacare, and no public option was included in the program.

Some of us were dismayed that 95 percent of all US income growth under Obama went to the 1 percent year after year after year, and the president did nothing about that. But this benefited Wall Street and the 1 percent.

Some of us were disgusted the president continued to press for policies that increased income and wealth inequality, such as the Trans Pacific Partnership, the South Korea Free Trade Treaty, and Common Core. Again, this benefited Wall Street and the 1 percent.

As US Senator Elizabeth Warren said about Obama and his economic team, “They protected Wall Street. Not families who were losing their homes. Not people who lost their jobs. And it happened over and over and over.”

The next recession will be worse than the last, especially for the 99 percent. The economy recovered in an anemic fashion, with demand terribly low because of the inequality of income brought about by federal legislation. In 2008, this nation needed a strong leader, a new FDR, and we instead elected the best candidate either major political party was willing to nominate; we got a Wall Street drone.

We are currently in one of the most politically corrupt times in US history. Money has saturated the political and court markets. The Reagan tax cuts began the corruption. The corporate wing of the US Supreme court was the first serious victim of this corruption.

The truth is that the two major political parties are controlled by different factions of the 1 percent, although some of the factions play roles in the political direction of both parties, such as Goldman Sachs. The two parties divide the American people via social issues, and then the two unite to redistribute the income of the 99 percent to the 1 percent via legislation and free trade treaties.

President Obama is a product of his times. Despite that, and despite vicious opposition from the Republican Party that left millions more in poverty simply for political gain, history will likely remember the president more fondly than either of the Bush presidents, President Ford and possibly President Nixon, as well. However, it is possible he will land in the bottom ten worst presidents of all time. Among modern presidents, since say Teddy Roosevelt, Obama will definitely rank right there above Warren Harding, and very few others, so that in my list of the bottom ten president’s since Teddy Roosevelt, Obama rates among the not so bad, definitely not good category.

The Great Presidents

1. Franklin Roosevelt
2. Harry Truman
3. Teddy Roosevelt
4. Lyndon Johnson
5. Dwight Eisenhower
6. Woodrow Wilson
7. Jimmy Carter
8. Gerald Ford
9. William Howard Taft
10. John Kennedy

The corrupt presidents

11. Ronald Reagan
12. Calvin Coolidge
13. Bill Clinton
14. Richard Nixon
15. Bill Clinton
16. Barack Obama
17. George H. W. Bush
18. Warren Harding
19. George W. Bush
20. Herbert Hoover

Notice those who are the worst president’s were also president’s during the times when the federal government was the most corrupted, the 1920s, and the era from 1981 to the current era.

From Arthur Stamoulis, Executive Director of
CITIZENS TRADE CAMPAIGN

Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR) just took over as Chair of the Senate Finance Committee — one of the most powerful positions in the entire federal government. As such, Senator Wyden will play a deciding role in how trade policy moves forward in this country.

Please sign our “floppy disk” petition urging Senator Wyden to use his power to put an end to Fast Track for the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and future trade agreements.

Senator Wyden has repeatedly called for transparency in the TPP negotiations. At a constituent event this month, he promised to continue pushing for it, and over two years ago, he wrote our Oregon affiliate saying, “U.S. trade negotiators should be required to — at a minimum — share with the public the proposals they are putting forward, as they put them forward, in negotiations. Obama’s trade negotiators cannot be allowed to shroud their goals in secret because, after all, they are supposed to be negotiating on our behalf — on behalf of workers and everyone who simply seeks to make a decent income for an honest day’s work.”

Now Senator Wyden is in a position to make transparency in U.S. trade negotiations a reality. The first step is abandoning the outdated and inappropriate Fast Track mechanism, which allows trade negotiators to keep their proposals hidden from the public until after pacts are signed, amendments are prohibited and changes become all be impossible.

Fast Track was first cooked up during the Nixon Administration, when trade policy primarily covered tariffs, quotas and customs practices. As questionable as rushing trade agreements through Congress was back in the 1970s, it is clearly ill-suited for modern times when trade deals also cover energy policy, Internet protocols, medicine patents, labor rights, environmental protections, government procurement, financial regulations and more.

A healthy economy, environment and democracy — whether locally, nationally or globally — require transparent and participatory public policy-making, not obsolete Congressional rubber-stamps.

TAKE ACTION: Sign our “floppy disk” petition urging Senator Wyden to say NO to Fast Track for the TPP and other trade pacts. Your electronic petition signature will be printed out, adhered to an old-fashioned 5.25″ floppy disk and hand-delivered to Senator Wyden’s office to drive home the point that Fast Track outdated and needs to come to an end.

Thanks to your efforts, our campaign to end Fast Track has been incredibly successful in recent months. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi have both spoken out against it — and even Vice President Joe Biden has admitted that Fast Track faces an uphill battle.

As new chair of the committee that decides whether or not Fast Track will move forward, Senator Wyden is in a position to retire this obsolete and undemocratic policy-making procedure once-and-for-all. Please help us defeat Fast Track by signing the petition to Senator Wyden now.

Click here to sign the petition. It should be pointed out that Senator Wyden on all economic issues has sided with Wall Street and the 1 percent against the 99 percent 100 percent of the time. Don’t let this weasal do it again. Sign the petition now

As a final note it should be pointed out that these free trade treaties are primarily designed to push US wages down, ship jobs overseas, and create jobs overseas that would otherwise be created in the USA. The difference between the old higher US wages and the new lower overseas wages is redistributed into the pockets of the 1 percent. Wyden is not the dumb idiot he pretends to be. He knows this.

With the super rich determining the rules and regulations handed out by government, the game has been stacked and rigged by the 1 percent against the 99 percent, and against the USA, as well. It began with the Lewis Powell Memo of 1971. It was a manifesto outlining how the super rich could dominate the economic and political landscape of the United States, as they had before the 1930s. The Great Depression was a direct result of their rule. Within a year of giving his manifesto to the US Chamber of Commerce, President Richard Nixon selected Powell to become a US Supreme Court Justice. Powell had never been a judge, and in fact, he was a lawyer for a tobacco corporation, defending the company against claims that the company lied about tobacco not being a cancer cause.

The US Chamber acted on Powell’s manifesto, and essentially, that’s how we got to where we are today; lower standards of living, massive personal and government debt, decreased real wages, massive redistribution of income and wealth from the 99 to the 1 percent via federal and state legislation, a federal government corrupted by big money and as corrupt as any banana republic on both the state and federal levels, financial inequality like none ever before in US history, an historically weak economy, huge media consolidation so bad that the news media in the US no longer exists and has been replaced by a network of propaganda machines whose purpose is to keep the 99 percent dumbed-down and ignorant to the benefit of the 1 percent, school districts starving for money because the jobs that supported the tax bases have been shipped overseas and the difference between the higher old wages here and the old wages there have gone into the pockets of the 1 percent via higher corporate profits, share prices and dividends, and the list goes on and on.

Understand one thing that Lewis Powell showed up; the US Supreme Court is nothing more than a tool of the 1 percent, and has been for at least twenty years. Justice in the USA? What a joke! The deck is completely stacked against the 99 percent.

Check out the links below for the Powell Manifesto, the plan by a future supreme court justice to steal democracy, and the Bill Moyers video of where we are in that plan.

The civil war within the Republican Party is on! Leaders of the anti-tax Tea Party are angry with plans by other Republican strategists to tap the party’s wealthy donors and raise money to help “electable” candidates win primary races.

Jonathan Collegio, a spokesman for Conservative Victory Project, said in an e-mail today that Republicans lost some Senate races last year and in 2010 because of “undisciplined candidates running bad campaigns.” The new group “seeks to help elect the most conservative candidates in Republican primaries who can win in general elections.” In other words, “stupid Tea Party candidates cost us the senate.”

Leaders of the Tea Party and some other Republican groups opposed to abortion and gay rights (like other Republicans are not) called Texas political strategist Karl Rove, a founder of the victory project, a “fake conservative” who had “declared war” on the Tea Party.

Matt Kibbe, the head of the Koch Brothers “FreedomWorks,” which identifies itself as a “grassroots” Tea Party booster, called the Victory Project strategy, “Orwellian.”

All of this means that the Koch Brothers and other billionaires of the ultra-far-far-far right are now at war with Republicans of the far-far right. Think about this.

Ronald Reagan was to the right, and sometimes a toady of the far right, but nobody in their right mind would call him a far, far right Republican, much less an ultra, far, far, far right guy. The same is true for Barry Goldwater. President Richard Nixon, another Republican conservative, would be considered left to President Obama nowadays. That’s how far right both political parties are nowadays, and all of it means that income will continue to be legislatively redistributed from the 99 to the 1 percent.

By 2012, a good three years after the end of the last recession, fully 49.1 percent of the US population received some form of government assistance compared to 30 percent in 1980. The under President Jimmy Carter, the economy had just staggered out of a severe recession. During the period from June 1980 to June 1981, the economy created nearly three million jobs, in a nation that was more than 2/3s smaller in population and gross domestic product than the current economy. What happened to cause such giant differences between then and now?

The US government was taken over by the 1 percent. The result has been a massive redistribution of income and wealth from the 99 to the 1 percent via free trade legislation, deregulation and privatization scams, as well as profitable wars for the 1 percent and stuff like that. The result is that the rich have stolen via legislation about 30 percent of all US income, whereas they received 7-8 percent in 1980.

That means the 99 percent only receive 70 percent of the total US income, and the result is they have less money to spend. More of them need government assistance to get by, and that’s why the economy is so weak, as well as why more and more people receive some form of government assistance.

By the way, the 1 percent are stealing 93 percent of all income growth in the US, at least since 2008. That means more people are going to be on government assistance in the coming years; the demand for goods and services by the 99 percent will diminish. This will weaken the economy more and result in an epic economic disaster. This process continues under President Wall Street Barack Obama. Most likely this disaster will begin in the next few years, but it could be ten years away. In reality, the economy is teetering on the edge of disaster as I write this, and we are most likely in the midst of a slow motion collapse.

One more point needs to be made, most of the rich are rich because of the ability to control government legislation. They can purchase the votes of politicians like Wall Street Senator Ron Wyden. The ability to buy the votes of politicians like one could purchase the services of whores on the streets is the biggest government welfare program of them all.

By the way, since the ascendency of Richard Nixon as president in 1969, Jimmy Carter is looking like a hell of president compared to either the elder or the younger and dumber Bush’s, and compared to Obama. Let’s get something straight, next to Reagan and Clinton, by any measurement, Carter is probably the third best president since 1969. He might even be number one.
